NYC waterfront affordable housing: How to apply before the deadlines this month
09 de septiembre de 2024
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Two Staten Island apartment buildings in close proximity to the waterfront are still accepting lottery applications for some two dozen affordable housing units, according to NYC Housing Connect – but the deadlines to apply for the rent-stabilized residences will close at the end of this month.
Offering lively modern amenities and 23 newly constructed, beautiful rent-stabilized residences
Units in the building, which is anticipated to receive a tax exemption through the 421a Tax Incentive program of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), are available to those with an annual household income falling between $82,115 and $218,010. Construction is still underway; no completion date has been offered.
“HPD remains dedicated to building more affordable housing throughout New York City, and strongly encourages people to apply to this exciting Staten Island opportunity,” noted HPD Deputy Press Secretary Natasha Kersey.
Amenities at Water’s Edge include in-unit laundry, a gym, recreation room and rooftop terrace and dog run. Additional incentives include one free month of early occupancy -- applicable for one- or two-year leases. Tenants are responsible for household electricity, including electric stove, heat and hot water.
And Water’s Edge is just a part of NYC’s affordable housing push. One other Staten Island affordable housing opportunity “near the water” includes Harborview Senior Apartments at 80 Scarboro Ave. The lottery for that complex closes on Sept. 16.
“Located in the historic neighborhood of Stapleton/Rosebank in Staten Island, 80 Scarboro offers [the] majority of its affordable units to seniors +62,” according to the Housing Connect website. “The building is perfectly situated on a dead-end avenue on the waterfront with scenic views of the New York Harbor. It is also located minutes away from Alice Austen Park.”
There are 31 units available, each configured with open-concept layouts, large bedrooms and modern kitchens, the website detailed. Amenities include air conditioning, bike storage lockers, a virtual door attendant, an elevator, high-speed internet and high-end kitchen appliances. Eligible income for the apartments is $56,538 to $218,010.
